Overview:
The Hunting Tiger is a new vehicle from Akula Corporate Engineering's Vehicle Division that utilizes ancient Terran design philosophy. The design originated in the Terran Second World War. Designated tank destroyers, these heavily armed and armored machines forfieted their turrets in order to mount devastating main weapons. The Hunting Tiger is designed very much like one of the later tank destroyer designs, and shares that vehicle types strengths and weaknesses.

Capabilities:

The Hunting Tiger is based on the Chasis of the Tiger Mk. II, and is in fact the same weight and speed as that vehicle. However, the Hunting Tiger is more heavily armed, and carries more armor than the Tiger Mk. II. The Hunting Tiger carries 16 tons of A.C.E. Type 4F Heavy Armor with CASE. Since there is no turret section that requires additional complicated armoring, the Hunting Tiger carries a very thick skin of armor. The armor is weaker in the rear of the vehicle, but only slightly.

The Hunting Tiger mounts the same Norse-Storm Model 7D Gauss Rifle as the Tiger series tanks. However, since there is not turret to allow for rotation of the main gun, it is mounted on a gimbled mount that allow for 45 degrees of side to side motion, 37 degrees of elevation, and 12 degrees of depression. The secondary weapon, the Blazefire Sweetshot ER Large Laser is mounted to the left of the Gauss Rifle in an identical gimbled mount. The Hunting Tiger also mounts a Defiance P5M Medium Pulse Laser in the front arc, once again utilizing a gimbled mount. Addtionally, there are 3 Sperry Browning Machine Guns mounted 1 each to the right, left and rear of the tank to provide protection against light vehicles and infantry.

The weakness of the Hunting Tiger is the same weakness that was found in the tank destroyers of ancient Terra. If engaged by a vehicle or mech that can outmanuever it, the Hunting Tiger will find its weakly defended rear and sides exposed to enemy fire. What makes this situation worse is the fact that the Hunting Tiger cannot bring its main weapons to bear against targets such as these, as they can simply outrun the Hunting Tigers turn radius. This means that the Hunting Tiger is best deployed in areas that allow it to dig in and provide cover for its weakly defended sides and rear. Hunting Tigers are best deployed in ambushes or in the fire support role for this reason.

Deployment:

The Hunting Tiger is used by the Federated Suns as a more powerful, but less expensive alternative to the Tiger Mk. II main battle tank. Most Federated Suns commanders deploy lances of Hunting Tigers well to the rear of the lines, and utilize their Gauss Rifles and ER Large Lasers to provide heavy, direct fire support to more manueverable and capable units. Only a moderate number of Hunting Tigers have been delivered to the Federated Suns to this point, but production continues at a slow pace.
