Designed by Akula Corporate Engineering in early 3059 to
meet the needs of the Federated Commonwealth, the
GBN-9D Goblin is designed as a heavy fire support mech.
The Goblin is capable of laying down a tremendous
amount of long range firepower, yet retians the ability to
adequately defend itself at short ranges. Production
began in 3062, and continues to date at Akula Corporate
Engineering's Outreach factory.
Capabilities:
The Goblin's combat role is easily defined by its heavy
reliance on hard hitting long range weapons. The Grizzard
Model 210 Gauss rifle is the most devastating of these
weapons and can cause substantial damage to anything
that falls under its sights. Backing up the Gauss Rifle at
long range is a Holly LRM10 and a Blazefire Sweetshot
ER Large Laser.
If the Goblin should mortally wound an opponant at long
range, it is quite capable of moving in to closer quarters to
finish the job. The 2 Defiance P5M Medium Pulse Lasers
are deadly accurate at close ranges. If the pulse lasers
are not enough, the pilot has the option of getting physical
with the mechs paired hands.
While the Goblin relies on advanced construction
materials such as Endo Steel internals, and A.C.E.
Type 4A1 Heavy Ferro Fibrous armor the mech's true
strength is its Vlar 300 Fusion engine. The engine is quite
well protected and easy to repair. While it gives only
average horepower and speed for a 75 ton mech, the
Goblin's combat role means it has little need for great
speed.
Deployment:
The Goblin was one of the last mechs to see full
integrated deployment in the Federated Commonwealth
before the impending civil war. Teh Goblin can be seen in
both Steiner and Davion units, and the numbers are split
almost equally. Both factions use the Goblin in the same
matter, fire support for other units. Rarely does a goblin
close to close ranges to employ its Medium Pulse Lasers.
